James Kerry Signs Controversial Gun Treaty with the U.N.

On Wednesday November 9, 2016, while everyone was distracted by the Donald Trump winning the Presidency, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry (D) signed a highly controversial bill that leads to gun registration in the United States.

This treaty forces Importers in the United States to report to the US Government, the personal information of any citizen who buys a firearm imported into the United States.

Secretary Kerry said in a statement:

“This is about keeping weapons out of the hands of terrorists and rogue actors. This is about reducing the risk of international transfers of conventional arms that will be used to carry out the world’s worst crimes. This is about keeping Americans safe and keeping America strong,” he said. “This treaty will not diminish anyone’s freedom. In fact, the treaty recognizes the freedom of both individuals and states to obtain, possess, and use arms for legitimate purposes.”

The caveat to that, which Secretary Kerry did not elude to is, What constitutes a ‘Legitimate Purpose’?

The National Rifle Association responded, that the,

“United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) forced civilian disarmament and the continuation of gun rights in America”

Many of the most popular firearms sold in America are from foreign makers like CZ, heckler and koch (HK) and Baretta, just to name a few.  Pro-Gun activists say this treaty is the beginning of the unconstitutional “Gun Registration”, which in the past has lead to the disarmament of citizens in countries like France and Germany, which at the time were occupied by the Nazzis and became victims of mass murder in the 20th Century.

The Senate said they will block this treaty because of the interference it would cause with citizens’ second amendment rights. Even if Barack Obama signed the treaty, both signatures by Kerry and Obama would be symbolic only, and wouldn’t be ratified unless the Senate approved it.
